Managerialism and the Military: Consequences for the Swedish Armed Forces

This article analyzes civil–military relations and the issue of civilian control through lens new managerialism. It illustrates that means mechanisms applied by governments to govern military actually shape its organization affect functions in ways not always acknowledged debate. We start illustrating gradual introduction management reforms Swedish Armed Forces growing focus on audit evaluation. The thereafter consequences these managerialist trends for most central installation armed forces–its headquarters. further exemplifies how such work professionals at units. In conclusion, have only changed structure relationship between core support but also placed limits influence professional judgment.
